Next Step Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Community Foundation of South Puget Sound
Introduction
The Next Step Scholarship was created to support students who intend to enter a trade, vocational occupation, or a career-focused program. Typical examples (not exhaustive) include dental hygienist, construction, truck driving, cosmetology/barbering, nursing, legal secretary, culinary arts, and information technology. Programs leading to physician, architect, veterinarian, attorney, or CPA careers are not eligible for this award.
Who is eligible
- Graduating seniors from public high schools located in Thurston, Mason, or Lewis counties, or from Raymond in Pacific County.
- Cumulative GPA must fall between 1.75 and 2.75.
- Applicants must plan to enroll in a trade school, apprenticeship, vocational program, or a two-year community college program.
Selection priorities
Preference is given to applicants who either maintain consistent strong performance or show clear, steady improvement over time. Successful candidates will demonstrate a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, the ability to follow directions, and clear potential to complete their chosen program successfully.
Renewal
This scholarship may be renewed for a second year. Recipients seeking renewal must reapply.

Required application materials
- Two letters of recommendation
- Official grade transcript
- Attendance record covering all four years of high school
