Overview
The Anthony “Tony” Gobar Juvenile Justice Scholarship Fund awards a single, merit- and need-based scholarship each year to a full-time junior or senior enrolled at a public university in Mississippi or at Southern University in Louisiana. Eligible majors include criminal justice, political science, social work, pre-law, or counseling. Applicants must express a career focus in juvenile justice or a closely related area and show a history of commitment to community or public service.
Award details
- One-time scholarship up to $2,500 (non-renewable).
- Funds may be applied toward tuition, books, and room and board.
- Finalists will be selected by the scholarship selection committee from applicants who meet the deadline and criteria.
Eligibility requirements
- U.S. citizen.
- Enrolled full-time as a junior or senior at a public university in Mississippi or at Southern University (Louisiana).
- Major in criminal justice, political science, social work, pre-law, or counseling.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrable financial need as verified by the applicant’s university or college financial aid office.
- A stated career interest in juvenile justice or a similar field and documented commitment to community/public service.
Application materials (required)
- Completed Anthony “Tony” Gobar Scholarship application form, including a personal statement outlining career goals and a description of community and/or public service.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation.
- Financial aid verification completed by the university or college Financial Aid Officer.
Deadline and notification
- Completed applications must be submitted by June 30, 2024.
- Successful applicants will be informed in writing and may be invited to accept their award at the Annual Mississippi Juvenile Justice Conference.
