Clair A. Hill Scholarship Program

Annually, the Clair A. Hill Scholarship Program, sponsored by Jacobs, grants a $5,000 scholarship to a deserving undergraduate student. This scholarship is awarded by the recipient of the Clair A. Hill Agency Award for Excellence.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
Before filling out the scholarship application, it is crucial to thoroughly understand the Clair A. Hill Scholarship Guidelines. Applications from candidates who do not fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria will not be entertained. The application cycle for 2024-’25 will commence in December.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS
- The applicant should be a resident of California at the time of application.
- The applicant should be enrolled in an accredited University of California or California State University at the commencement of the academic year for which the scholarship is being awarded.
- The applicant should be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a field related to water resources, such as engineering, agricultural and/or urban water supply, environmental studies, or public administration at the start of the academic year for which the scholarship is being awarded.
- The applicant should be at least a junior at the commencement of the academic year for which the scholarship is being awarded.
- The applicant should commit to full-time enrollment (12 semester units or 16 quarter units) for the entire academic year for which the scholarship is being awarded.
- The applicant should provide at least two (but not more than three) current letters of recommendation, with at least one letter from a college professor or employer on business letterhead; all recommendation letters should include the writer's contact information.
- The applicant should provide official transcripts from all colleges attended; acceptable formats include photocopied or scanned official transcripts, or unofficial transcripts issued by the school; however, printed class schedules will not be accepted.
- The applicant should submit an essay (not exceeding 1,000 words) in response to a specific prompt.
SELECTION PARAMETERS
The scholarship recipients will be chosen based on:
- Academic performance;
- Proven dedication to the field of water resources-related management;
- The quality of the submitted essay; and
- Commitment to full-time enrollment for the entire academic year.
OBJECTIVE AND DISBURSEMENT
The scholarship funds are not directly transferred to the student. Instead, a lump sum of $5,000 is disbursed to the relevant Financial Aid Office and must be applied towards the student’s tuition and fees. The scholarship funds should not be directly transferred to the student or used for any other purpose.
If a scholarship recipient fails to adhere to the terms of this scholarship in any manner, the award may be revoked.
