Overview
The New York Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund Inc. (GLEF) has supported graduate study for New York State women since its incorporation in 1989. Through 2026 the fund awarded over $219,500 in fellowships to 179 recipients across 62 fields of graduate study. For 2027 the GLEF has allocated $8,000 for four fellowships of $2,000 each to supplement education costs in the 2027–28 academic year. The program targets women pursuing advanced graduate degrees at accredited New York State institutions.

Eligibility
The fellowship is open to women who meet residency, academic, and enrollment requirements specific to New York State. Applicants must demonstrate both scholastic ability and financial need. Candidates should already be enrolled in an advanced graduate degree program at an accredited New York State institution and have completed at least one semester in that program. Applications with an anticipated graduation year later than 2029 are not eligible.
Eligibility:
- Be a woman who is a U.S. citizen, a DACA recipient, or a permanent Green Card holder and a resident of New York State.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Be currently enrolled in an advanced graduate degree program at an accredited New York State college or university and have completed at least one semester in that program.
- Provide evidence of scholastic ability and financial need.
- Anticipated graduation year must be no later than 2029.
- Residency and immigration status are required conditions.
- Applicants must already be enrolled and have completed one semester.
- Both merit (scholastic ability) and need are considered.
Application process
Applications for the 2027 fellowships will be made available for download in Fall 2026 in MS Word and PDF formats. Applicants are responsible for completing, signing where required, and ensuring their application and all supplemental materials are postmarked by the February deadline. Required supplemental materials must be sent directly by the issuing parties (transcripts and recommendation letters) to the Fellowship Chair. Applicants will receive acknowledgement of receipt by email.

Required supplemental materials include official undergraduate and graduate transcripts sent directly from the institutions, two current letters of recommendation sent directly by the referees, and a one-page personal statement detailing accomplishments, goals, financial need, and plans for use of the graduate education. Acknowledgement of receipt and subsequent communications will be made by email.
