The Gayle and Tom Benson Charitable Foundation is offering scholarships based on financial need, with a maximum value of $5,000, to full-time students attending any accredited four-year institution.
To qualify and be considered for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident or permanent inhabitant of Louisiana
- Identify as an underrepresented minority (Black/African American, Native American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx/Hispanic American)
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Show evidence of unmet financial need as confirmed by your college or university
Submission Guidelines:
- Applications must be submitted through the UNCF’s online scholarship application portal by November 15, 2023. The application must be fully completed and submitted by the deadline
- One recommendation letter is required. The person providing the recommendation should not be a family member or relative. The Letter of Recommendation (LOR) must be submitted through the UNCF online Application System and must be received by the application deadline. LORs sent via email will not be accepted.
- Essay – A one-page personal statement outlining your career aspirations must be included
- A recent official or unofficial academic transcript is required
Selection of scholars will be based on academic achievement, the substance and quality of the essay, financial need, and the recommendation letter.
Applicants who have successfully submitted their applications will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this email, it is likely that the application was not submitted properly.
Final award decisions will be communicated via email within 10-12 weeks after the application deadline.
