Pulaski Scholarship for Advanced Studies — Program Summary

Purpose
The Pulaski Scholarship for Advanced Studies supports graduate students of Polish descent who are pursuing advanced degrees at accredited U.S. universities. The award amount is $5,000.

Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident and must claim Polish ancestry. If you were not born in the United States, include proof of U.S. residency or citizenship (for example, a copy of the relevant passport page or the date and identifying number of your naturalization/residency document).
- Must be a classified graduate student enrolled in an accredited U.S. university and must have completed at least one full year of graduate study.
- If your advanced degree program will be completed within one year of application, request that an appropriate university official prepare and sign a statement confirming the date the degree will be awarded; that statement must be sent directly to the Pulaski Scholarship Committee Chairman, Mr. Stephen Medvec.
- Previous recipients of an ACPC Pulaski Scholarship are not eligible.

Application (No formal application form required)
Submit the following materials:

1) Curriculum vitae or resume that includes:
- A trace of your Polish ancestry to the nearest family member(s) through whom you claim Polish origin, plus documentation verifying that Polish origin.
- A clear statement of your academic and professional objectives.
- A list of current postgraduate courses (if these are not visible on your transcript).
- A short explanation of what a $5,000 scholarship would mean to you.
- A permanent mailing address (so you can be reached after you leave school, if necessary).

2) An official copy of your most recent university transcript (not a downloaded copy).

3) An academic letter of recommendation from a faculty member with whom you are or have been studying at your current graduate level.

Research / Scholarly Work
- Master’s candidates: If your program requires a thesis, provide a description of your research to date. If no thesis is required, submit a recent academic project, report, or paper completed for a course in your major field.
- Doctoral candidates: Submit an outline or summary of the current version of your dissertation proposal and explain the potential significance of the research. If a dissertation is not required, submit a recent academic project, report, or paper completed for a course in your major field.
- All candidates: Include a faculty evaluation of the thesis, proposal, project, report, or paper referenced above. The evaluation may be a grade and/or written commentary from the evaluator.

Community Involvement and Work Experience
Provide a description of extracurricular engagement in the broader community (on- or off-campus) or relevant employment. Highlight any participation in Polish-American activities at your school or in the community. Include a recommendation letter from someone familiar with the activities or experience you describe.

Registration Fee / ACPC Membership
Enclose a check or money order payable to “American Council for Polish Culture” for:
- $25.00 — this fee covers the Pulaski Scholarship registration, one year’s membership in the American Council for Polish Culture (ACPC), and a subscription to the quarterly Polish Heritage.
- If you are already an individual ACPC member or a member of an ACPC affiliate organization, the registration fee is $20.00. (A list of member/affiliate organizations is available on the ACPC website.)

Additional Information
Applicants are encouraged to become involved with the American Council for Polish Culture and its network of affiliate and supporting organizations. The Council and its affiliates (34 established affiliate/supporting societies and institutions) have sponsored cultural and educational programs for more than six decades. Participation can provide professional and cultural opportunities that benefit both the applicant and the Council’s mission.

Send degree-attestation letters (when applicable) directly to:
Pulaski Scholarship Committee Chairman
Mr. Stephen Medvec

(If you need the current mailing address or have questions about submission, consult the ACPC website or contact the organization directly.)
