Eligibility Criteria for Grants/Scholarships

This annual scholarship is sponsored by Judith Hart Ward, a speech-language pathologist whose primary professional interest has been in working with students in the public schools who have communication difficulties, and David J. Ward, Judy's husband, whose career has been as a professor and administrator in the University of Wisconsin System.

Guidelines for Application

This scholarship will be presented at the WSHA Convention in the spring of each year to a student with an indicated interest in providing speech and language services in schools. The amount to be awarded during the WSHA Convention will be $2,000. The intent is for it to be used for educational costs. To apply for this award, a student must meet the following conditions:

  1. Be a graduate student in his or her first year of an M.S. or M.A. program.
  2. Be enrolled in a speech-language pathology program in an accredited graduate program in the state of Wisconsin.
  3. Submit two letters of recommendation that describe clinical and academic abilities. These letters may be from faculty members or supervisors of practicum.
  4. Submit a completed application form along with an official transcript of all graduate coursework.

Preference will be given to those students intending to seek employment in schools serving early childhood and K-12 students. Those intending to work with the birth-to-three populations may also apply.

The completed application form, graduate transcript, and letters of recommendation must be received by the WSHA Foundation on or before June 28th. Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified.
