How to apply and required materials - Complete and submit your application using this form. - Email the following items to [email protected] by Friday, January 16, 2026 at 8:00 PM PST: the completed application form, an official or unofficial transcript, documentation of admission, and one letter of recommendation. - Applications that are missing any required documents or submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Recommendation letter requirements - The recommendation must be sent directly by the person writing it and must clearly identify the applicant by name. - Recommendors should have direct knowledge of your academic, professional, or personal accomplishments. - Family members are not eligible to provide recommendation letters. Selection process - Candidates selected as finalists will be invited to a live, on-camera interview conducted via Zoom. Applicant affirmations (what you agree to by applying) - You understand that the Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA) Tuition/Book Assistance Scholarship is intended for Black/African American individuals who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer. - You confirm that you meet at least one of the following: you are a current high school senior, or you have been admitted to a community college, a four-year college/university, a graduate or professional degree program, or a vocational program leading to a degree, state license, or certificate. - You agree to provide proof of admission or current enrollment as part of your application materials. - You acknowledge that your application materials will only be viewed by authorized individuals involved in evaluating candidates for the scholarship. - You waive any right to access recommendation letters written on your behalf. - If awarded a BBLA scholarship, you may be invited to attend the Truth Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Los Angeles. - You consent to the use of your name and photograph in Better Brothers Los Angeles Truth Awards promotional materials. - You understand that scholarship funds will be distributed directly to your educational institution beginning fall semester/quarter 2026. Payments will be issued in two installments for semester systems or three installments for quarter systems, contingent upon receipt of enrollment verification by the school.
