Overview
The AOPA Foundation, supported by donor contributions, awards more than $1 million in scholarships each year to help AOPA members — including high school students — pursue aviation training and careers. Awards support a variety of needs, from initial flight training to advanced ratings, certificates, and aviation maintenance programs.
Important dates
- Application opens: September 9, 2024
- Application closes: February 7, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EST
Who may apply
- Applicants must be AOPA members and either U.S. citizens or U.S. lawful permanent residents.
Award amounts and uses
- Scholarship awards range from $2,500 up to $14,000.
- Funds may be used for primary flight training, advanced ratings and certificates, aviation maintenance training, and related aviation education expenses.
Targeted opportunities
- High school students: There are 80 scholarships of $10,000 each reserved for students ages 16–18 to obtain their private pilot certificate. Additional eligibility requirements apply.
- AOPA You Can Fly Curriculum teachers: Twenty $10,000 scholarships are available to teachers using the AOPA You Can Fly curriculum to pursue their private pilot certificate. Additional eligibility requirements apply.
How applications are considered
- Submitting one application enters you into consideration for every scholarship for which you qualify.
- The final number and total dollar value of scholarships depend on donor funding and may be confirmed shortly before award announcements.
