Linly Heflin funds scholarships for Alabama women attending Alabama colleges and universities.

Since 1919 our supporters have helped Alabama women realize their dreams. We have given thousands of women a shot at a brighter future, and we are not slowing down. Join us in our mission to help Alabama women move upward and ahead.

Over the years we have been able to increase the size of our scholarships and the number of scholarships we award. In the 2019-20 school year, we supported nearly 100 women and gave away approximately $700,000 in scholarships. Since 1923, we have funded more than 3,000 scholarships totaling around $6,000,000.

Who is eligible to apply?

• Women who are U.S. citizens and residents of the state of Alabama.
• Women who attend or plan to attend a four-year Alabama college or university that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
• Women with a minimum ACT of 23, may be superscored
• Women with a minimum high school GPA of 3.2
• Applicants must graduate from an accredited (SACS CASI) Alabama public high school, a private school licensed by the Alabama State Department of Education or homeschooled.

When may I apply?

• The 2027 application will be available online beginning October 1, 2026.
• Applications close at 5 pm in January 2027.

• Documented financial need

How much is the scholarship?

• The scholarship is $5,000 per undergraduate semester to be used for a maximum of 8 semesters. Funds must be used within a 5 year period.

When will I hear about whether I’ve received a scholarship?

• Applicants will be informed if they are selected for interview by in February 12, 2027.
• Interviews will be held in on March 6, 2027.
• Scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of March 2027.

What are the specifications of the scholarship?

• Linly Heflin scholarships are to be used for undergraduate studies by Alabama women attending Alabama four-year colleges or universities. They may not be used for post-graduate studies.
• Funds will be sent directly to the schools in early August for the fall semester and in November for the spring semester. Recipients may use the funds for two (2) semesters per academic year, for a total of 8 semesters. Funds must be used within five years of award.

What are the requirements for maintaining a scholarship?

• Scholars must be a full-time student, maintaining a course load of at least 12 hours per semester.
• Scholars must maintain at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Failure to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA results in probation for one semester. If after one semester the cumulative GPA is not 2.5 or greater, the scholarship will be terminated.
• Scholars must send grades at the end of each semester, including current and cumulative GPA.
• Scholars must notify Linly Heflin of any changes in contact information, including email address, cell phone number, or home address.
• Scholars must immediately notify Linly Heflin of any change in college status, including transfer or withdrawal.
• Scholars must sign a contract with Linly Heflin prior to each academic year.
