Michigan Elks Gold Key Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Michigan Elks
The Michigan Elks Charitable Grant Fund is extending an opportunity for special-needs students to receive scholarships for further education at a recognized educational institution or a certified trade or vocational school. This scholarship is designed to support high school seniors who, without financial assistance, would not be able to continue their education or training beyond high school. The scholarship can be used at any accredited college, university, certified trade or vocational school. Our aim is to empower these students to become self-sufficient, independent, and productive members of society.
For this scholarship, a Special Needs student is defined as one who is physically challenged, currently qualifies for special education services under Federal guidelines, or has been approved by the Gold Key Commission of the Michigan Elks Association.
Each scholarship is valued at $2,000.00 annually. It may be renewed for up to three additional years, provided the recipient reapplies and furnishes proof of attendance and satisfactory academic performance. All scholarships are awarded as certificates, contingent upon enrollment.
The scholarship funds are paid directly to the educational institution the student is enrolled in.
The following documents must accompany each application:
- Official high school transcript(s).
- Filled out Student Application Form.
- A letter, not exceeding 200 words, from parent(s)/guardian outlining your family responsibilities, resources, and the need for financial aid.
- Three recommendation letters from a high school teacher/counselor, a special educator/therapist, and another responsible community member.
- The Individual Education Program Report provided by the student's school. A 504 form is also acceptable.
- If the applicant does not have an I.E.P. or a 504 form from the school, a letter from a doctor regarding the “special needs” is required.
- A letter of acceptance from a school, if available at the time of application submission. If not, it must be submitted before any scholarship funds are disbursed.
