Established in 2007, Women in Financial Markets (WIFM) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, connecting, and promoting women in the global financial markets sector. With over 6000 members, including women in trading, sales, law, economics, portfolio management, risk, marketing, research, academia, government, operations, and technology, WIFM is committed to fostering the next generation of female leaders. To this end, WIFM has initiated a scholarship program aimed at inspiring high school girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to consider careers in finance.
Who Can Apply:
Eligibility criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- The applicant must be a female student in the 12th grade
- The applicant must come from a disadvantaged background
Application Process:
- Applicants are required to:
- Complete an online application form
- Provide a high school transcript
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor
Essay Requirement: Applicants are asked to write an essay of 500-1000 words detailing the career they are interested in and the personal qualities they believe will help them overcome potential challenges in their career path. They should also explain why they selected these particular traits.
Award:
The successful applicant(s) will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship towards their tuition fees. The award will be issued as a check, made payable directly to the accredited post-secondary institution of higher education within the United States that the student will be attending.
