Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship

The Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program, established by the Mitte Foundation, is designed to support local high school seniors in Texas who intend to further their education at two- or four-year colleges or universities within the state.
Who Can Apply?
Those wishing to apply for the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program must meet the following criteria:
- Hold U.S. Citizenship
- Be a high school senior set to graduate in Spring 2024
- Have graduated from a high school in one of the following Texas counties:
- Bastrop
- Bell County, specifically Bartlett ISD
- Blanco
- Burnet
- Comal
- Caldwell
- Fayette
- Gillespie
- Gonzales
- Guadalupe
- Hays
- Kendall
- Lee
- Llano
- Milam
- Travis
- Williamson
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate financial need, as determined by a Student-Parent Contribution (SPC) of $37,000. Preference will be given to students with an SPC of $25,000 or less
- Intend to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in Texas for the entire upcoming academic year
NOTE: Home-schooled students residing in the specified counties are also eligible to apply.
Relatives of Mitte Foundation employees or board members are not eligible to apply.
Scholarship Amount
- Students attending four-year colleges will receive $10,000 each, while those attending two-year colleges will receive $5,000 each
- The scholarships are renewable for up to three years for students at four-year schools and up to one year for students at two-year schools, provided the student meets the following conditions:
- Must have received a Mitte Scholarship within the past 12 months
- Must attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university in Texas for the entire academic year
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Must pass at least 12 credit hours of undergraduate study per semester
- Must contribute a minimum of 100 hours per year to meaningful community service*
- Must participate in events specifically for Mitte Foundation scholars (dinners, BBQs, presentations, seminars, etc.)
- Must submit the following materials at the end of each award year:
- Resume detailing current job hours and any leadership roles
- Copy of transcript including name, school name, grades, and credit hours
- Personal essay detailing community involvement over the past 12 months
- Letter of recommendation attesting to the student’s volunteer activities and leadership skills
*Further details on how to complete the 100 hours of community service can be provided upon request.
Selection Process
The selection of scholarship recipients is based on:
- Academic performance
- Leadership roles and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement outlining educational and career goals
- Unique personal or family circumstances
- Three online recommendations
All applicants must submit a copy of their SAR (Student Aid Report) obtained after completing the FAFSA. The selection of recipients is carried out by Scholarship America and representatives of the Mitte Foundation. All applicants must agree to accept the decision as final.
Notification
Applicants will be informed of the decision in May. Not all applicants will be selected as recipients.

Private and Charter School Students must submit:
- A complete transcript of grades
- A notarized Curriculum Form
- A copy of the FAFSA Submission Summary
Home School Students must submit:
- A complete transcript of grades
- A notarized Transcript Verification Form
- A notarized Curriculum Form
- A copy of the FAFSA Submission Summary
NOTE: If you are submitting SAT or ACT test scores that are not listed on your high school transcript, you must upload an official copy of these scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, these scores are not required.
