Foster Children Education Scholarship

Overview
The Foster Children Education Foundation Scholarship awards financial assistance to Nevada youth who are currently, or who formerly were, in foster care and who were never legally adopted (and were not expected to be adopted). The award is intended for students who have earned a high school diploma and are committed to continuing their education. Applicants should demonstrate academic strength (minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application) and limited personal financial resources or access to other substantial financial aid. Preference will be given to students enrolled full time. Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, textbooks, and required fees, and can be used for traditional college programs or vocational/specialized training.
Required application materials
- High school or college transcript
- A student-written essay (maximum one page) describing your background, educational and career goals, reasons for selecting your program, how further education will affect your life, and your plan to finance your schooling
- A nomination letter from a teacher or school counselor who is familiar with your goals and personal history
Who may apply
An applicant is eligible if they:
- Are a graduating high school senior or have already earned a high school diploma in the State of Nevada
- Are, or have been, in foster care in Nevada and were never legally adopted (applicants with a history of foster care in Washoe County will receive priority)
- Are a legal U.S. resident
- Lack significant personal financial resources or major outside financial assistance (demonstrate substantial financial need)
- Have been admitted to an accredited program: a 2-year or 4-year college/university or a certificate program at a trade or vocational school
- Are not related to the scholarship donors
Award conditions
Recipients must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA while receiving scholarship funds and must submit an unofficial transcript at the end of each semester during which they are awarded support.
