Overview
The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship supports students who live with epilepsy or seizure disorders and who demonstrate determination in pursuing their education despite challenges posed by their condition.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a high school senior, planning to enroll in a college or a career/technical program, and must reside in Illinois.
- Applicant must have a diagnosis of epilepsy or a seizure disorder and be receiving ongoing care from a licensed physician.
- The candidate should show a strong commitment to academic success and resilience in overcoming barriers related to epilepsy/seizures.
Award Details
- The scholarship provides $2,000 per academic year.
- Awards are renewable for up to four (4) years, contingent on the recipient remaining enrolled as a student in good academic standing.
About Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield
The scholarship honors Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield, who died from Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) in 2011 at age 36. Sara earned a Master’s degree in Social Work and devoted a decade of her career to the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois, where she was a dedicated advocate for people affected by epilepsy.
Funding
This scholarship is financed by the Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
