Fighting the Nursing Shortage Scholarship

Introduction
Schenk Nursing Home Abuse Law is offering the Fighting the Nursing Shortage scholarship: a $2,000 award for a student who thoughtfully addresses how COVID-19 and current nursing shortages have affected the healthcare system. Applicants must submit a short video responding to the prompt below. All application materials must be complete and received by July 31, 2026.
Who may apply
This scholarship is open to students who are pursuing or plan to pursue a nursing degree and who meet the following conditions:
- Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college, university, or graduate program in the United States
- Pursuing, or intending to pursue, a degree in nursing
- Agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions
Additional eligibility requirements (must meet all):
- At least 18 years old at the time of enrollment
- U.S. resident
- In good academic standing
- Willing to provide required personal and academic information (name, contact details, school information)
- Submit an original video created for this scholarship
Please note: incomplete applications or submissions missing required materials will not be reviewed.
Video topic and length
Create a video that answers the question: “What can the healthcare industry do to encourage more students to pursue nursing?” Your response should reflect critical thinking about the issue and the pandemic’s effects.
Length: 1 to 2 minutes.
Technical and content requirements
When recording and submitting your video, follow these rules:
- Film in a well-lit environment.
- Keep the recording device as steady as possible.
- State your full name and that you are applying for the “Fighting the Nursing Shortage” scholarship within the video.
- In the video description, list any sources you used and identify the media editing tools employed to produce the video.
- Use only copyright-free media (images, music, footage).
- Give your entry an original, descriptive title.
Editing and use of AI
You may use media editing software (for example, Adobe Creative Cloud) or other tools to enhance your video, but editing skill is not a judging criterion — content and ideas are what matter.
AI guidelines:
- AI-generated B-roll footage is allowed.
- Do not use AI to produce the video’s script, fabricate voices, or create synthetic actors. Doing so may result in immediate disqualification.
- The primary footage included in your submission must be your own (not AI-generated).
Submission deadline
All videos and application materials must be submitted by July 31, 2026. Submissions received after that date will not be considered.
Selection, notification, and publicity
The scholarship selection committee will review entries and may take up to three months after the deadline to choose a winner. Decisions are made without regard to age, race, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, or any other protected characteristic.
Schenk Nursing Home Abuse Law will contact only the selected recipient by email prior to any public announcement. After the winner accepts the award, the firm will publish a blog post and press release recognizing the recipient. The committee will not provide updates about the selection process, answer questions about who will win, or contact applicants who are not chosen. Please do not call, email, or otherwise attempt to contact the firm about the scholarship or the selection process.
Who is not eligible
The following people are ineligible to apply:
- Employees of Schenk Nursing Home Abuse Law and their children
- Previous recipients of the Fighting the Nursing Shortage scholarship
- Applicants who are unwilling or unable to be interviewed by a firm representative if selected
- Applicants who submit the same video for other scholarships or reuse the same video across multiple years
