Overview
Description: The Oregon Hunter Jumper Association (OHJA) awards academic scholarships to members pursuing continuing education at accredited colleges, universities, or other post-secondary institutions. Applications are evaluated on a point scale totaling up to 100 points across multiple criteria. The evaluation emphasizes academic performance, OHJA involvement, written materials, interview responses, personal goals, and horsemanship. Applicants who volunteer with OHJA are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility
Eligibility: Applicants must be current OHJA members at the time of application and may apply as early as their junior year of high school through their final year of college. Applications must be submitted on or before the October deadline to be considered. Each applicant may receive only one OHJA scholarship in their lifetime. Meeting these eligibility requirements is a prerequisite for evaluation by the Scholarship Committee.

Application Materials
Application Materials: Required materials include an official high school and/or college transcript, three letters of recommendation using the OHJA form, and a completed Scholarship Application with all questions answered. Suggested references include teachers, trainers, counselors, coaches, or employers; references from relatives will not be considered. Applications should be neat, legible, and may be submitted using the provided form or as a business letter or resume with separate paragraphs for each response.

Submission & Timeline
Application Timeline: Completed applications and supporting materials should be submitted on or before the October deadline; submission via the online form is preferred. Completed applications and additional materials may be sent to the OHJA Scholarship Committee Chair at [email protected]. If you cannot submit electronically, contact the Scholarship Chair for the preferred mailing address. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered except in cases of exigent circumstances with Board approval, and applicants will be notified of interview scheduling once applications are received.

Selection & Awards
Selection Process: The Scholarship Committee reviews complete applications and selects up to three recipients each year based on the established scoring criteria. Evaluation may include review of academic records, OHJA involvement, written materials, goals and motivation, horsemanship, and overall presentation. Applicants who have demonstrated service to OHJA are strongly encouraged to apply. Final award decisions are made by the Committee in accordance with the stated criteria.
