The Wanta Thome Employment Lawyers Scholarship supports student research that measures the economic impacts of workplace discrimination and retaliation. Who Is Eligible
- Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in law (J.D.), public policy, economics, sociology, business, or comparable programs may apply.
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and be in good academic standing.
- The competition is open to students across the United States; preference will be given to applicants at institutions located in Minnesota or Illinois.
- Employees of Wanta Thome, their immediate family members (parents, children, siblings, spouses), and anyone who shares a household with those employees (whether related or not) are ineligible to apply.

Application Materials (required)
1) Academic Interest Statement (500–750 words)
- Explain your scholarly interest in workplace discrimination and economic justice.
- Include relevant coursework completed or planned, and describe how your studies have prepared you to research this topic.
- State your career objectives in this area and how you intend to contribute to research on workplace equity.
- Educational preparation details to include: notable academic projects or papers, research methods courses completed or anticipated, technical competencies (for example, statistical analysis or economic modeling), and any interdisciplinary approaches you are using.

Note on originality: You may use tools to help brainstorm, but your submitted statement must be your own original work. Submissions may be screened for originality and AI-generated content.

2) Personal Statement (500–750 words)
- Describe your personal and academic commitment to advancing workplace equity, your educational journey, and how receiving this scholarship would further your goals.

3) Academic Transcript
- Provide a transcript from your current institution. First-year college students, graduate students, or recent transfers may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school plus the most recent official transcript from their previous institution. High school applicants should submit documentation of college or university acceptance.

Selection and Notification
The scholarship recipient will be selected during the month following the application deadline.
