Introduction AFT-Wisconsin continues its tradition of providing educational assistance to the dependents of members in good standing who are planning to pursue post-secondary studies. For 2025 the union will award one $1,000 university scholarship and one $500 technical college scholarship. In addition, an extra $1,000 university scholarship will be presented this year in memory of Kathy Monaghan, a longtime AFT-Wisconsin member, activist, and leader. Eligibility - Applicants must be dependents (child or other dependent) of a parent, grandparent, or guardian who is either a current AFT-Wisconsin member or a retiree who has maintained good standing with AFT-Wisconsin for more than one year. - At the time the award is disbursed, the student must have been accepted to an accredited college, university, or technical college. - Preference for the 2025 awards will be given to students whose expected high school graduation date is June 2025. If funds remain after those applicants are reviewed, or if no current graduates apply, previous graduates will be eligible for consideration. - Graduate students are not eligible. Selection criteria Completed applications will be judged on the following factors: expected graduation date, academic record, involvement in extracurricular and school activities, demonstrated leadership, family involvement with union activities, the required essay, and letters of recommendation. Funding These memorial scholarships are financed by AFT-Wisconsin together with voluntary donations.
