Applications are open from early January to late May. We notify all applicants of our decision by mid-July, once our review committee has rendered their recommendations. APPLICANT CRITERIA
The following criteria are used for selection of scholarship recipients to ensure that the mission of the Foundation is supported.
- Recipients must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
- Recipients must have significant bilateral hearing loss. We require at least a 50 dB unaided hearing loss in both ears (verified by the speech reception threshold – sometimes called the SRT - or the pure tone average- sometimes called the PTA - loss on their audiogram)
- Recipients must be undergraduates attending an accredited non-profit college physically located in the United States. The Foundation will not consider applications for graduate or high school tuition.
Applicants who meet the above criterion are considered regardless of age, sex, race, geographic location or ethnicity. The final selection of scholarship recipients will be made by the Foundation's board of directors or by designees as directed by the board.
APPLICATION LOGISTICS
There are four things we ask you to do throughout the application:
- ANSWER SURVEY QUESTIONS. These are designed to help us learn more about you and your circumstances. Required questions are indicated with an asterisk. NOTE: for longer responses, you may "cut and paste" text from a word document. Note, however, that special formatting is only acceptable if added AFTER the plain text document is pasted into the answer space. (Use Command+Shift+V to paste in Mac's, and CTRL+Shift+V to paste in Windows to remove any special formatting).
- UPLOAD DOCUMENTS. The required documents include:
- An audiogram - including unaided assessment if you use hearing aids. (Not required if have a cochlear implant).
- High School transcript, and if applicable, your college transcript if you have completed one or more semesters of college.
- Parents'/guardians' tax forms - first two pages of tax form(s) with social security numbers blacked out or covered.
- REQUEST LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Indicate names and email addresses for at least 3 (or up to 6) persons we can contact for a letter of recommendation for you.
- CERTIFY UNDERSTANDING, and SUBMIT the application.
