History
WMANNCA was founded on July 31, 1990. The organization is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors. Board members serve two-year terms, and elections are held each year on a staggered schedule so that three to four seats are renewed annually.
Mission
WMANNCA fosters a social, professional, and support network for current, retired, and former Navy nurses. The organization advances the art and science of nursing, encourages nursing as a career, and supports the objectives of its parent organization, NNCA.
Activities and partnerships
- Support for active-duty and veteran-focused efforts, including Operation Welcome Home Maryland (volunteers who meet returning service members at BWI) and the Honor Flight program that escorts aging veterans to Washington, D.C.
- Ongoing participation in Wreaths Across America, ensuring wreaths are placed each December at graves in military cemeteries.
- Assistance to other local veteran-oriented nonprofit organizations of interest to members.
- Co-sponsorship, with NNCA, of DAISY awards recognizing nursing excellence through the DAISY Foundation at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center.
