Overview
The Tommy Tranchin Award, administered by The Dallas Foundation, was created to assist students who face physical, emotional, or intellectual disabilities and who demonstrate talent or enthusiasm in a particular interest area. The Tranchin family established this award to honor Tommy’s adventurous, creative spirit by providing opportunities for other young people with disabilities to develop skills and pursue new experiences.
Purpose and allowable uses
This award is not intended to cover tuition or other expenses related to earning a college or university degree. Instead, funds are meant to support creative endeavors, performances, specialized training, workshops, seminars, competitions, and similar activities. Proposals that outline new creative work are highly encouraged. Award monies may also be requested for travel, equipment, and other costs directly related to the proposed activity.
Who may apply (Eligibility)
- Must be a current student in North Texas in grades 8–12.
- Must have a physical, emotional, or intellectual disability.
- Must propose an activity, program, or project that will help strengthen abilities in the applicant’s chosen area of interest.
- Applicant must be a resident of North Texas.
Award amounts and requirements
- Awards are offered annually and may be up to $2,500.
- If the proposed activity involves attending a program or institution, applicants must provide confirmation of enrollment before funds are released.
- After completing the supported activity, recipients are required to submit a final report explaining how the award funds were spent and describing outcomes.
