William Galey Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by American Physiological Society
This award provides professional development funds for up to three graduate students, postdoctoral fellows or early-or mid-career faculty newly transitioning into a teaching career to either attend the Center for Physiology Education pre-conference workshop prior to the American Physiology Summit or participate in the Effective Physiology Teaching virtual training course. The award is given in memory of William Galey in honor of his commitment to the teaching and professional development of trainees in physiology.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- be a current American Physiology Society (APS) member in good standing, and
- be a graduate graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, early-or mid-career faculty
newly transitioning into a teaching career.
Criteria
The application package includes:
- have a primary affiliation in the Teaching of Physiology Section
- one-page letter of intent that includes your career goals and how this award will benefit your professional development and training;
- curriculum Vitae; and
- one letter of support from your mentor, principal investigator/advisor, or department chair familiar with your career goals, which includes a statement on how the chosen professional development program will benefit your training and career plans.
Applicants and awardees are encouraged, but not required, to attend the American Physiology Summit.
Awardees for the pre-conference workshop will be invited to the Teaching of Physiology Section Banquet during the Summit and will be asked to help in the review and selection process of the following year.
