Overview
This award encourages medical students to produce scholarly essays relevant to medicine and aims to promote rigorous student scholarship. Award Details
Monetary awards are granted to multiple recipients and accompany publication in The Pharos. The award recognizes exceptional student scholarship and supports continued academic engagement. Selection confers both a financial prize and publication credit.
Award Value: Up to five essays will receive a $1,500 award each.

Eligibility
Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in medical schools that have an active ΑΩΑ Chapter or Association. Applicants need not be ΑΩΑ members; however, if an applicant is an ΑΩΑ member, they must be an active member. Each student may submit only one entry for consideration.

Submission Requirements
Submissions must be original, single‑author works created while the author is a medical student and must not be published elsewhere or under consideration during the ΑΩΑ selection process. Essays should be academic or scientific in theme, related to medicine, and should not be fictional or written in the first person. Formatting limits include a maximum of 15 double‑spaced pages in 12‑point type with minimum 1‑inch margins; the author’s name and essay title must appear on each page and all pages must be numbered. References should be numbered consecutively, limited to 20 unique entries, and website citations are acceptable only when the site is the sole or an official academic source; authors are encouraged to review George Orwell’s “6 Rules for Writing.”
