Award Value

Award Value: When appointed, the scholarship pays up to the lesser of $30,000 per academic year or the recipient’s cost of attendance. Recipients may receive the scholarship for as many as four academic years, subject to continued eligibility. Some officer training programs incur additional expenses that may not be covered; recipients should consult their institution’s financial aid office for guidance. The scholarship covers a substantial portion of qualified educational costs but is not guaranteed to cover every program-related expense.

Academic Requirements

Academic Standards: Recipients must meet specified college-readiness and academic-performance criteria to receive and retain the award. Initial entry and continued eligibility are based on high school GPA, postsecondary GPA, or meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment college-readiness standards (or qualifying for an exemption). Institutions are responsible for verifying that recipients meet these standards before disbursing scholarship funds. Students should confirm specific verification procedures with their college or university.

Initial Scholarship Recipients:

• High school GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; or
• Meet TSI assessment college-readiness standards or qualify for an exemption

Recipients After First Year:

• Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on postsecondary coursework; or
• High school GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; or
• Meet TSI assessment college-readiness standards or qualify for an exemption

Eligibility

Eligibility: Appointment to the scholarship is required and is made by an authorized Texas elected official. Eligible students must maintain the academic requirements and participate in or complete required officer training programs as directed by their institution or commissioning source. The scholarship is awarded based on appointment and continued compliance with program conditions; being appointed once may establish eligibility for subsequent disbursements across multiple years. Service Obligation

Service Obligation: Recipients must serve a minimum of four years as commissioned officers after graduation. Acceptable service may be in any branch of the United States armed services or in the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, or U.S. Merchant Marine. Service must follow commissioning and graduation as specified by the scholarship program and relevant commissioning authorities. Students should understand the service commitment before accepting the award.
