Overview
This scholarship is intended for graduating high school seniors of Italian heritage who have a family connection to the Dante Club or the Dante Club Auxiliary. The program supports students enrolling in an accredited college, university, or vocational school. Awards and the number of recipients depend on available funds; an individual award may be up to $2,000.
Who is eligible
- Must be a high school senior who will graduate in the year of application.
- Must be of Italian descent with one of the following relatives in good standing with the Dante Club or Dante Club Auxiliary: parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, or uncle.
Enrollment verification and permitted uses of funds
- Before any award money is released, the recipient or the recipient’s accredited college, university, or vocational school must submit proof of enrollment.
- Any field of study or major is acceptable.
- Awards may be disbursed directly to the student (in which case the recipient must supply receipts showing payment to the accredited institution) or paid directly to the accredited institution on the student’s behalf.
- Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, supplies, room and board, or any combination of these expenses.
Application period and award timing
- Applications are accepted each year from January 1 through March 31.
- Scholarships are announced and distributed in the Spring/Summer of the same year.
- The number of awards and the amounts depend on available funds. All eligible students are encouraged to apply.
Applicant responsibilities and documentation
- Applicants are fully responsible for completing the application and providing all required materials. Follow the checklist carefully.
- Any additional documents submitted after the initial application must include the student’s full name and be sent “c/o Scholarship Committee.”
- All documentation must be supplied as requested for the application to be considered.
Required application materials
- Completed Dante Club application form with all required signatures (student and a parent).
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members.
- Official high school (or current educational institution) transcript covering the entire period of enrollment.
- A two-page personal essay describing: educational and career goals; current or past extracurricular involvement (such as volunteer/community service, scholastic or civic organizations, student government or leadership roles, athletics, etc.); personal and financial challenges; honors and awards; how the scholarship will support your goals; and a list of all scholarships you have applied for and/or received, including names and amounts.
Additional note
- Finalists may be asked to participate in a panel interview as part of the selection process.
