Biography
Mary C. Rawlins (1929–1995) dedicated her life to advancing the interests of minority communities. She helped establish the Connecticut Association of Affirmative Action Professionals (CTAAAP), an organization that today is known as the Connecticut Association of Diversity and Equity Professionals (CADEP). Mary also founded the Connecticut Caucus on Black Aged, Inc. In 1983 the Commissioner on Aging appointed her to the State Department of Aging’s Minority Advisory Committee, and in 1990 the American Association of Retired Persons named her a volunteer spokesperson for its Minority Affairs Initiative. Her advocacy extended into many civic groups, including the Urban League, the NAACP, and the National Council of Black Women for Political Action.
Eligibility for the Mary C. Rawlins Scholarship
- Senior high school students who are Connecticut residents, with a minimum 2.5 (C+) GPA at the end of the Fall semester.
