Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship Foundation
Purpose
The Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship Foundation seeks to ease the financial strain faced by childhood cancer survivors and their families as they pursue higher education. These young adults and their families have endured life-changing experiences that continue to affect them long-term.
Eligibility
- Open to high school graduates of the current year who are survivors of childhood cancer.
- Applicants must be residents of Colorado or Montana.
Application deadline and submission
- All application materials must arrive at the address provided by the foundation no later than 5:00 P.M. on March 15.
- If March 15 falls on a Sunday, the deadline will be extended to Monday, March 16.
- No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
- Completed applications may be delivered to the Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship Foundation at any time prior to the deadline.
Required materials and selection factors
Awards are decided based on the following information:
- High school grade point average (include an official copy of your transcript).
- SAT or ACT scores.
- A letter from the physician who managed your cancer treatment (this should be one of the required references). If you cannot reach the treating doctor, you may instead provide documentation from the hospital or clinic confirming your treatment.
- Two additional letters of reference from individuals who are not family members.
- Your answers to the two questions included on the application.
Selection process
- The Foundation’s Board of Directors will perform an initial review of all applications. Final award decisions will be made following a personal interview.
- Scholarship recipients will be notified at the discretion of the Board, either in person or by telephone.
Conditions of award
- Proof of acceptance to an accredited institution of higher education must be submitted before an award is paid.
- For recipients of renewable scholarships, it is the student’s responsibility to keep the Foundation informed of academic progress so that funds for subsequent semesters may be released.
