Annie T. Randall Innovator Award
Scholarship Sponsored by American Statistical Association
Overview The Annie T. Randall Innovator Award was created to honor emerging leaders in statistics from any employment sector and with any level of formal education. Named for Annie T. Randall — a Black woman whose groundbreaking work in government during a time of widespread racial discrimination made her a lasting role model — the prize celebrates individuals whose creativity and perseverance mirror her legacy. The Biometrics Section established the award in 2020. The annual monetary prize is $2,000. Who selects the award Recipients are chosen by the Annie T. Randall Innovator Award Committee. Eligibility - Intended for individuals in the early stages of their statistical careers. A useful guideline is no more than 10 years of professional experience, but periods of interruption or career changes are excluded from that count. The committee recognizes diverse and nontraditional career paths and therefore does not enforce a rigid cutoff. - There is no requirement for a particular degree or level of formal education. - Candidates must be members of the Biometrics Section to be considered. What to address in the nomination or personal statement The nomination letter or personal statement (1–2 pages) should: - Describe how the candidate has pushed statistical boundaries in ways that advance the discipline and benefit society. - Explain how the candidate exemplifies Annie T. Randall’s determined commitment to excellence. - Clarify how the nominee fits the award’s broad definition of “early career” given the guideline above. Nomination process and materials - Self-nominations and third-party nominations are both accepted. Candidates from groups historically underrepresented or excluded in statistics are especially encouraged to apply. - Deadline: March 15 each year. - Required materials: - Candidate résumé or CV - Candidate personal statement or nomination letter (1–2 pages) Submit materials to the award committee chair, Sherri Rose.
