Guided by that principle, the Fund’s Trustees allocate financial support—whether for research grants, seminar assistance, or other initiatives—aimed at expanding and sharing knowledge in information and records management.

Eligibility Because fundraising has been constrained by the ongoing pandemic, the ALHEF Board of Trustees has chosen to continue awarding scholarships this year but with a reduced scope. As a result, the eligibility criteria have been adjusted as follows:
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States or Canada and must reside in the Southwest U.S. region (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or New Mexico). Previous recipients may apply again and will be considered.
- Candidates must be actively pursuing education leading to a career in information and records management. Eligible fields are limited to Records Management/Governance, Archivist studies, and Academic Library programs.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required.
- The Fund Trustees will determine how many scholarships are awarded each academic year.
Application requirements
- Completed scholarship application form and a 200–300 word essay explaining how your studies will advance your career in records and information management and how your training will add value to an organization.
- Three letters of recommendation from employers, instructors, or other individuals able to speak to the applicant’s character and qualifications.
- A copy of the most recent academic transcript and the applicant’s degree plan.
Deadlines and notification
- Applications for the Alice L. Haltom Educational Fund Scholarship must be submitted by the May deadline in the year funds are requested.
- Award decisions will be communicated in July.
Award disbursement and recipient responsibilities
- Scholarship monies will be released after the recipient provides written verification of enrollment at an accredited institution.
- Recipients must submit receipts for tuition, fees, books, and related expenses (up to the scholarship amount) to the Fund’s Executive Director as they become available.
- Final grades for the academic year covered by the award must be sent to the Fund’s Executive Director promptly when posted. If grades are not received within 60 days after the end of the term, a Form 1099 will be issued and reported to the IRS for tax purposes.
