Overview

The AAPT Board of Directors offers scholarships intended to support students preparing to become high school physics teachers. These awards are administered from an endowment established by Barbara Lotze and are restricted to U.S. citizens who attend schools in the United States. Eligible applicants include undergraduate students already enrolled in teacher-preparation programs and high school seniors accepted into such programs. Eligibility

Applicants must declare an intent to prepare for and pursue a career in high school physics teaching. At the time funds are received, candidates must be U.S. citizens and either enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college, or university, or be a high school senior accepted for such enrollment. The scholarship is intended for those pursuing or planning to pursue a course of study that leads to high school physics teaching. Applicants should demonstrate promise of success in their academic studies.

Eligibility: Undergraduates (or high school seniors entering undergraduate programs) who are U.S. citizens, enrolled in accredited institutions, and committed to a high school physics teaching career.

Award Details

Successful applicants receive a financial stipend and membership benefits to support their preparation for a teaching career. The stipend is awarded up to $3,000 per recipient, and each recipient receives a complimentary one-year AAPT Student Membership. The scholarship may be awarded to an individual for each of four years, subject to selection and any applicable renewal criteria. Awards are intended to offset educational costs and encourage sustained progress in teacher preparation.
