Overview

Greenhouse Scholars' Whole Person College Program identifies motivated young leaders from low-income communities and provides coordinated academic, professional, and financial support during college. Scholars receive community impact planning, one-on-one mentorship, professional networking, leadership and life-skill development, a Summer Symposium, internship opportunities, and tuition awards. The program emphasizes a holistic ecosystem of support composed of mentors, staff, volunteers, peers, donors, and alumni to help Scholars succeed academically and contribute to their communities. Post-graduation services are available through the program's next phase.

Eligibility

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors planning to enroll in a four-year accredited institution in fall 2027 and meet academic, residency, and financial-need criteria. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and legal residents of Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Utah, or specified counties in California (Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange). Academic and personal qualifications include a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and demonstrated leadership, perseverance, and community commitment. The program limits eligibility to households with annual income no greater than $80,000.

Award Value

Tuition awards are available to participating Scholars, with monetary support capped at $5,000 per academic year. In addition to tuition assistance, the program supplies non-financial resources—mentorship, internships, professional networking, and leadership development—that contribute to long-term student success. Financial awards are one component of a broader support package intended to reduce barriers to degree completion. Specific award disbursement and eligibility details are handled during the application and finalist stages.

Application Timeline

The selection process is conducted in four parts: an initial eligibility survey and short response, a detailed academic and written submission, semi-finalist video and financial documentation, and finalist interviews. Key dates: Part 1 opens September 1, 2026; Part 2 opens September 7, 2026; Part 3 opens January 8, 2027; finalist interviews occur late March to mid-April 2027; winner notifications are scheduled for the week of May 3, 2027. Required materials include transcripts, two letters of recommendation, written responses, optional ACT/SAT scores, a five-minute video for semi-finalists, and proof of household income. Finalist interviews will be held in multiple cities, and finalists must also report college acceptance and other scholarship awards.

Application Timeline: A rolling, multi-stage application with deadlines between September 2026 and May 2027, culminating in finalist interviews and winner notifications.

The Whole Person College Program is the first phase of Greenhouse Scholars' three-phase Community Change Model, designed to support leaders from college into early career development. The initiative has built a large, diverse network of mentors, staff, volunteers, peers, donors, and alumni that sustains Scholars beyond the college years. Graduates remain connected through the Young Leaders Program, which provides post-graduation services and continued leadership opportunities. The model emphasizes long-term community impact by investing in Scholars who commit to serving their communities.
