Family Adversity Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Yates & Wheland
Yates and Wheland is delighted to announce the 2023 Family Adversity Scholarship, a program designed to honor students who have overcome family challenges. As legal professionals, we have witnessed the resilience of many individuals who have navigated difficult circumstances, and we understand the stress that these situations can cause. We deeply respect those who can grow and evolve in the face of adversity. Therefore, we have established the Family Adversity Scholarship to acknowledge students who have weathered family hardships and emerged stronger.
We are offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior, college student, or graduate student who can eloquently express how their personal struggle has shaped them. Eligible applicants must be either currently enrolled in a two to five-year post-secondary institution or planning to enroll in the upcoming semester. The following eligibility criteria also apply:
Eligibility
- The scholarship is available to any current high school senior, college student, or graduate student who is a legal U.S. resident and who is enrolled in a two to five-year post-secondary institution for the 2023 fall semester.
- Yates and Wheland employees, their immediate family members, and individuals residing in the same household (whether related or not) are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
- Applicants for this scholarship should maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good academic standing at their current institution.
Application Requirements
- Applicants are required to submit a 750-word response to the following prompt: Discuss a time in your life when you and your family navigated a challenging situation. How has this experience influenced your life moving forward? What lessons did you learn, and how can you assist others facing similar circumstances?
- Applicants must include a professional resume detailing their academic, professional, and volunteer experiences along with their essay.
- Applicants must provide an official transcript from their current school. Transfer students or first-year students may also submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, along with the most recent official transcript from their previous school.
