Introduction
The Point Foundation BIPOC Scholarship seeks to address long-standing racial inequities and educational barriers rooted in discriminatory policies by offering monetary aid, access to community supports, and professional development opportunities for LGBTQ students who also identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.
Who can apply (Eligibility)
- Applicants must both identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC) and as LGBTQ.
- Candidates must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll at, an accredited postsecondary institution located in the United States (this includes Hawaii and Alaska).
- Individuals attending colleges or universities in a U.S. territory, as well as those in post-doctoral programs, are not eligible.
- Scholarship funds must be used at an accredited U.S. higher education institution during a term that falls between the spring 2025 session and the spring 2026 session.
- Eligible program types include: associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s or doctoral degrees, and professional degrees such as medical or law degrees (or other professional degree programs).
- For the term covered by the award, recipients must be registered for at least one credit-bearing course.
- Applicants must be “out” as someone who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community.
What selection is based on
Applicants will be evaluated using the following factors:
- Personal background and life experiences.
- Academic record and post-graduation educational or career plans.
- A realistic budget or estimate of educational costs and available financial resources.
- Participation in community activities and relevant work experience.
- Evidence of leadership or clear potential for leadership.
