Japanese American Community Graduation Program Scholarships

Scholarship Sponsored by Japanese American Community Graduation Program

Value: $5,000.00
Awards Available: 30
Deadline : Mar 22, 2026

In 1955, members of the Japanese American community created a scholarship in memory of the late Mr. Harry Sakata. Mr. Sakata was active both locally and nationally within the Japanese American community and held a firm belief that the youth are the future of that community. What began modestly has grown into the Japanese American Community Graduation Program (JACGP), which now honors graduating high school seniors who reflect Mr. Sakata’s commitment to leadership and community service.

Today, the JACGP recognizes Colorado high school seniors of Japanese American ancestry, as well as non–Japanese American seniors who are actively involved in two or more JACGP sponsoring organizations.

Eligibility:
To qualify, you must be a graduating high school senior residing in Colorado and meet at least one of the following conditions:
- You are a U.S. citizen of Japanese ancestry, or you are a U.S. citizen whose legal parent(s) is/are of Japanese ancestry.
- You are a graduating senior of Japanese ancestry residing in Colorado who holds permanent resident status in the United States (INS documentation required).
- You are a graduating high school senior who is, or who has a parent who is, an active member of one of the following JACGP sponsoring organizations:

- Brighton Japanese American Association
- Denver Nisei Bowling Association
- Nikkeijin Kai of Colorado
- Japanese American Community Graduation Program Committee
- Japanese Business Association of the Rockies
- Mile High Chapter Japanese American Citizens League
- Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation
- Sakura Foundation
- Chibi no Gakko
- Simpson United Methodist Church
- Tri-State/Denver Buddhist Temple
- Denver Bonsai Club
- Japanese American Resource Center of Colorado

The program remains dedicated to graduating students who demonstrate the leadership and community-service qualities that Mr. Harry Sakata valued.
